Welcome to my Weblog of my summer trip to Istanbul, Turkey, the crossroads of Europe and Asia. As a teacher I'm in the unique position of being a travel student and am investigating first-hand the Byzantine and Ottoman empires. I've gone to a lot of historic sites, met many locals and made new friends. This is my first trip to a Muslim country (though it is secular); being here is essential after having taught the Islam and the Roman Empire units of World History.
