This morning Jeanne Hamilton and I went wildflower hunting at Turkey Bend Recreation Area on Lake Travis. It is on the eastern edge of Burnet County between Marble Falls and Cedar Park. There was a good showing at the Comanche Camping Area on the shore of Lake Travis. We were very pleased with the abundance of wildflowers. The recent rains and warm temperatures were just right to make the flowers appear.
After our photo shoot we went back to Marble Falls to have lunch at the well-known Bluebonnet Café. They are famous for their pies; they even have a pie happy hour every day. There was a line waiting to be seated. While we were waiting, one of the waiters brought over two pieces of pie and offered them to us and the couple ahead of us. He said that he was giving them away because they couldn’t sell them. Later I asked our waitress why they couldn’t be sold and she said that they were too small! They looked large to us, though.
I ordered their Tuesday special, chicken and dumplings, with three sides. I was surprised that the chicken included three pieces with the bones in. I’ve never had it that way before. We both brought home enough food for another meal.
