We had another great day in Deer Lodge. We visited the Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site. It is a working cattle ranch that commemorates the role of cattlemen in American history. Encompassing 1,600 acres, over 80 historic structures, many historic artifacts, and walking trails, there is something for everybody to do at the ranch.

We stopped at the visitor center and picked up a brochure and set up the time of our wagon ride. We enjoyed the wagon ride much, but really enjoyed walking into the original buildings on the site even more.

We walked into a historic bunkhouse, the blacksmith shop, horse barns, and cattle sheds. We watched a cowboy put the saddle on the horse and take him through all the daily training procedures. We watched the lady blacksmith make a tool for hoof cleaning. They also had an old chuckwagon with a huge pot of coffee on the fire, passing out cups to everyone.

The price to visit this working ranch was FREE. You can't beat the price and we learned a lot. We highly recommend this tour to everyone in the area.
