New friends, new family Jul 4, 2008

We left Chicago on Thursday morning and drove to Laura's parents' house in West Bloomfield, MI. This was our first time to meet Wendell and Lynda, and they were extraordinary hosts. We felt totally at home immediately and we share so many of the same interests, they they became good friends right away.

They have several pets - four cats and a dog. One of my favorites was Theo who is a rampscallion. He was constantly in trouble, but Lynda calms him down by putting his favorite program on TV

. Seriously, this is a video made for cats which shows birds and squirrels etc. Theo, as you can see in the picture, actually watches this with great interest. Lynda says that occasionally, he actually tries to get into the TV to get at the birds, squirrels, etc.

The Fourth of July was a big family event. Wendell barbecued chicken and ribs which were fantastic. Lynda made wonderful dishes as well as her sisters and family who brought in more food than we could all eat for several days. We had so much fun getting to know everyone. Laura's birthday was actually June 29th, but she got a belated birthday cake while all the family sang

It was nonstop talking and laughing all over the house - what a great holiday!
