The street down to campground

Our pitch

and the view across Lake Geneva

Saturday, August 15th.

We awoke to a rainy overcast day so decided to hit the low road instead of the high less travelled one. The rain and low cloud would have made it difficult to see anything anyway. By the time we were driving though Thun (which we had seen from Schilthorn with binoculars) the rain had stopped but it was still overcast.

The trip took us just south of Bern to Lausanne then along the north side of Lake Geneva to Geneva. Our campground was through the city and about 10 km along the south side of the lake. There were a few pitches left that had a great view of the lake and we were lucky enough to get one.

As it was only around 1 pm and the weather was too unpredictable to do any touring I elected to head to the laundry room. What a fiasco this was!! To date we have been in 15 countries and other than a few exceptions all the machines have been different and run on different efficiency levels. After an hour and a half of drying (and E4) my clothes were still wet.

Several trips over to the reception, the last with my wet clothes, the women came back with me. Oh, she said those instructions (in English by the way) are wrong. REALLY, I thought. ( I noticed later that she still hadn’t bothered to change them) With great restraint, I asked her, “How was I to get any heat in the dryer”, she apologized, reset the dryer and put E4 in the machine. It took me almost 6 hours and a small fortune to wash and partially dry 3 loads of laundry. I would be shipping over a new Maytag if I had to live with that kind of efficiency.

The view across the lake to Geneva at night was like looking into a twinkling fairy tale. It was all a glitter.
