Exploring with Daisy 2014 travel blog

This morning Dianne Bennett took me to my pre-surgical visit with Dr. Geck. First, the X-ray tech took four X-rays. Then Dr. Geck came in to talk with me and answer my questions. He is very good about listening to the patient. He explained how he would repair the fractured T10 vertebra and install extensions to the existing rods from T8 to T11. He estimates that the surgery will be only 3-4 hours this time and that I will have to stay in the hospital for only four days. I will not have to go to rehab. Yeah!

The PA-C, Dana, and the RN, Jacqueline, provided more information about my upcoming surgery and recovery period and also answered some more of my questions. Dana suggested some foods that might set well with my “picky” stomach. There were more papers to sign, of course.

Next on the agenda was a visit to Seton Medical Center. An anesthesia assistant updated my medical history. Finally, a lab assistant came in and drew six vials of blood, one of which had to be rushed to the lab immediately so tests could be run to determine how fast my blood clots. The other five vials could be analyzed later.

Once all this was finished, Dianne and I went to Chili’s for lunch. On the way home, we stopped at Central Market to get me some allergy meds and the foods that Dana had suggested.
