Monica and Nick's World Adventure travel blog

San Pedro is a little town in the desert. Atacama is the driest place in the world and the town is on a desolate plain, surrounded by volcanoes and the Andes in the distance. The town is at 2400m and is nice and warm during the day (which was good for us !).

The town itself is very touristy, and there are only restaurants, tour agencies and hostals.... most of which were booked up when we arrived. After looking around we managed to find a room, but it was soooo expensive for what it was (a bit of a tip really !). The price difference was hard for us to get used to, Bolivia being the cheapest country in south america and Chile the most expensive. In Bolivia we would have got a palace for the same price as our room !!!!! The room didnt have a bathroom and was very shabby.

We quickly decided San Pedro wasnt for us ! so we booked a bus out the next day. We did check out the town and booked a horse riding tour to the death valley so that we had done something. The horses we got were a bit slow but travelling through the death valley and up to the sand dunes was quite nice.

By the way, map location is not correct, should be way further north on the border with Bolivia !
