One of our most anticipated events of the summer is the Pleasant Fest, held just outside historic Wallace, Kansas about 30 miles north of our place. Pleasant Valley Ranch is the beautiful home of Mark and Cindy Smith, situated in a grove of old trees with a stream and a pond and "pleasant" grounds. Every summer they host a small festival. They serve their famous smoked brisket and the guests bring all the other side dishes. Entertainment is provided by various musical artists and others - dance numbers, recitations, etc. We bring our lawn chairs and sit under the trees in their yard and enjoy an unmatched evening. It is a relaxing and enjoyable evening, with an opportunity to visit with many friends and acquaintances. We are grateful for their hospitality and very appreciative of their home. It is one of the highlights of our summer.
