For the past two days, we have just enjoyed being around the trailer and “chilling”. Rudy needed some blood work done before his doctor appointment in September, so we drove over to a Quest Diagnostic Center in Lincoln to get that done. Then, we went by Wal-Mart for a few items.

On the way to Wal-Mart, we saw an RV dealership that carried NUWA HitchHikers so we stopped in to see some of the new 2009 floor plans in person. After looking, we decided that we still liked ours best and of course ours is paid for and a 2009 would not be!

We have really enjoyed visiting this area of the country. Both Omaha and Lincoln have many attractions and the surrounding rural communities have given us an opportunity to see “Americana” up close and personal.

Today we again went into Omaha but this trip took us to the riverfront area of the city. Here, we boarded a three level riverboat and enjoyed an hour cruise of Omaha’s riverfront to one side and the city of Council Bluffs riverfront in Iowa on the other side of the Missouri River. Today’s weather could not have been more perfect for this sightseeing excursion.

Many people refer to this area as “Mid-America” as Omaha sits smack dab in the middle of the country; if you were to stick a pin in the middle of a U.S. map, you would come close to hitting Omaha.

A few other fascinating facts about Omaha are it is the smallest city in the country with 2 medical schools; University of Nebraska and Creighton University. Its inventions include the Rueben sandwich, cake mix, raisin bran and the TV dinner as well as the center pivot irrigation of which we have seen many in the fields of Western Iowa and Eastern Nebraska as we explored this area over the last month.

Union Pacific‘s riverfront dispatch center is a high-tech nerve center that controls thousands of miles of track throughout its 23 state system. Last, if you call for a hotel reservation anywhere in the United States, you are probably calling Omaha.

Tomorrow we will make ready for out next move. Will catch up on laundry, clean the interior of the rig, and make sure “Big Red” has plenty of air in the tires and diesel in her tank. By the way, when we arrived, diesel at the truck stop on I-80 was $4.39 and today it is $4.15 – What’s up? This downward trend has not been felt since we hit the road almost 6 months ago – sure makes one smile to have seen it go down each day since we arrived!

Till Later………….
