I'm working for Habitat this week, where I first started volunteering for them.

On the way, I detoured off of I-10 to dip down into Biloxi and Gulfport, MS to see the area I visited 2 years ago, when I volunteered here. The city is rebuilding but I don't think they are better prepared for strong storms off the Gulf. There are a couple of great big hotels/casinos right on the beach, though. Someone named Dayton carved big pieces of wood into birds and fish in 2007 and they are displayed on the median of Highway 90 that is along the beach. Nice to see - hope they last!

The houses I am working on this week are on land that I remember was being purchased by Habitat when I was here in April of 2006. They are on "stilts" because it is easier and cheaper to get home insurance if the house is raised off the ground. Makes sense for this area. The houses are built, the siding is on, and drywall has been put up and prepared for painting. So, I helped prime the walls two days in a row.
