|Only an hour S of Unawatuna...we took some time to tour the fort in Unawatuna. When we got off the bus it was just .5 km to the entry of Ocean Moon Guest house, very nicely situated on the beach, friendly folks - we choose the more expensive cabana which has more light & ocean breezes(1700 r. = $8.50 US each). A bit of a splurge but w/ 3 days and such a beautiful setting we couldn't resist. I immed went swimming, met Andy(wife Lucy & dau. 3 & 4 yrs old) from Oxford UK - owns an organic produce business - subscription type where people sign up and he provides a bin of vegies in season each week. Delivers 50% of them by bicycle.
Mirissa beach is truely idyllic - w/ tourism down there are few here so it is quiet, restful. I finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows this eve, good adventure & ending.
Another rough day on the beach, pummeled by the surf and sand in every orifice, EVERY orifice.
Book Recommendation: ‘Not Quite World’s End – A Traveler’s Tales’ by John Simpson
It is just out in 2008 and gives a realistic view of many of today’s trouble spots from the standpoint of this BBC journalist of 30 years. He is especially familiar w/ Iraq having spent a great deal of time there both pre & post Saddam!
Great buffet down the beach for brkfst, otherwise a ditto day!
