A nice leisurely wake up and breakfast this morning with Tracey cooking breakfast for most .... chateau 303 was open for breakfast !
Went down to Sixty6 -GG headquarters for our packs and wandered off in search of coffee and Christchurch sights. Our first stop was the site of the church that lost its front in the earthquake. I remember it from my first visit in 1987... the only thing I remember of Christchurch. It is still a devastating sight of rubble. There were a few market stalls just round the corner so we wandered through them before discovering coffee. After coffee we headed back through the streets of Christchurch admiring its wall art and pretty buildings before ending back in the cute street we’d had dinner the night before. Karen, Mae and Tracey headed off to the Managers meeting and the rest of us to lunch. We chose Thai at The Nook and were not disappointed. It was delicious.
We then headed home for some down time before donning our red and black for the opening ceremony. Hagley Park is a very large park in the middle of town where we are playing and partying. The same Park where the zooms are playing the Black caps. At Our opening ceremony the dulcet tones of the balmy army could be clearly heard in the background... I assume the Poms are going alright .
The band was brilliant playing all our music so singing , dancing and drinking were on the menu. The food stations contained pizza, mini pies and freshly baked ham and salad rolls.
There were plenty of shenanigans with Emily and I on stage leading the crowd in a rousing rendition of Sweet Bundy Belles ... could have those Aussie Diamond girls stealing the limelight on our song!
There may or may not have been a cape and a sign acquired and we may or may not have bombed several to many other team photos ....
A great night with some sore heads tomorrow - proudly mine will not be one!!
