I managed to catch Nicole today. She says it will be easy to register at the local police station. I’m going to ask Winnie to go with me, for assistance if needed.

There are a few things I am looking for, and I decided to give the old market area a try, so I headed up the road on a bus, toward town.

As I got off the bus, I found a shop with bed pads, which look ok. 60 RMB for 90cm wide, 80 RMB for 120. It looks like they will be fine to make the bed a little softer, which is definitely needed!

Well, what do you know, I accidentally found a cross stitch shop, and bought a kit for 20 RMB. I was not able to resist at the price. The finished piece measures 79 x 32 cm, a complete kit, including canvas, threads and needles, all for $4! Impossible to imagine in Australia.

In another shop, I found teaspoons. Four teaspoons at 2RMB each, and ten more coat hangers for 15 RMB.

Found an electrical shop, and looked for an extension lead. They did not have one, only power boards, but the young woman (who speaks excellent English) made up one for me. 2 metres long for 24 RMB.

Then I walked back down the road, past Frankle’s grandfather’s clock shop, but did not see anyone I recognized. I carried onward to the Renmin Zhonglu markets to get another 6 balls of wool, for the baby blanket.

On my way back into the college, after getting off a bus, I found cooked cobs of corn. This was always one of my favourite easy options for dinner! Two whole corn cobs for 4 RMB!

Walking in to the college back gate, Rony rang to say he was on his way to come and help me with buying a foam mattress online. And a bookshelf to try and help organize some of Scott’s kitchen/dining stuff. He is not so well equipped with furniture as I was.

I now have a 10cm foam mattress coming, for a mere 193 RMB. Cheap at any price. My comfort is really important. I’m not here for forever, so no need to really adapt to the hard sleeping options!

And there is also a bookshelf coming too. I think about 160cm tall, and 90 cm wide, for 179 RMB.

All in all, it has been a very successful day for me!
