This afternoon I went with Bob and Virginia Staats to the annual Weihnachtskonzert (Christmas concert) at Austin Saengerrunde Halle, presented by the Damenchor (Women’s Choir). Several songs each were done by the Damenchor (women’s choir), the Männerchor (men’s choir) and the Gemischter Chor (mixed choir). The pianist also played a Bach partita in the style of Rachmaninoff and “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” in the style of Beethoven. They were a hit with the audience.
At the end of the program there was a Gemeinschaftsingen (sing-along). Some of the songs were new to me but I could understand most of the lyrics (by reading the text printed on the back of the program). After the program we had some delicious goodies and punch. German ladies certainly know how to make tempting goodies.
Then Bob and Virginia took me to a room where there was a crafts show. There were some nice things – mostly jewelry – but I didn’t buy anything. I already have too many things! Bob introduced me to their Web master and we had a nice conversation. Last, they took me upstairs to show me around the music room where the choirs rehearse.
