Our trip from North Platte, NE to Oakley, KS took us through 173 miles of the Nebraska and Kansas farmlands. That was actually 20 miles farther than expected as we found US 83 completely closed about 40 miles north of our destination and we commenced a 20 mile detour to get to the campground! We saw field after field of dried, dead corn on the stalk, ears of corn included. We figure this must be used by the many feed lots we saw as we could see them cutting the corn at the ground and it being ground up and fed into semi-trailers. We could also see these trailers going to the feed lots as well as one huge yellow mound at one of the lots.
We are staying at the High Plains RV Resort
which is located right at exit 70 of I-70 (which we will take when we leave tomorrow). It is a good sized park with wide sites and ours was a long enough pull-through to leave Libby attached since we are not going anywhere while here. We have a level, 50 amp, full hookup site with good Verizon and no trees in the way of the satellites.
Tomorrow, we head for Dodge City for at least three nights - time for some more football!
