Resting after quite a feast

Still munching opportunities here - a pride of 24 lions were responsible...

Just keeping an eye on things

Cute in their own funny way!

So relaxed!

On the move in front of our vehicle

Yikes this is close!

Heading over the sand river to be closer to their prey

Loving the zebra!

Afternoon stroll heading for grazing land

– Woke at 4:40 and talked while listening to the hippos forage until sunrise at 6 and then down to breakfast.

Full day game drive with Josefat who is the senior guide at Ruaha with over 20 years experience and one of only 2 guides within the Fox structure accredited to guide without a driver. Given the number and variety of animals we had already seen Josefat set out to try and find leopard and buffalo – we were unsuccessful on both counts but Josefat assured us that Katavi was a much better park to observe both. A great day viewing nonetheless starting with a pride of lions crossing the road in our path and elephants wallowing by the river Hopefully we have got some great panoramic scenes from the days drive.

Late in the afternoon we walked to the main dining room which is perched atop a rocky outcrop but only used for lunches or during very busy periods due to the difficulty with the access path in the dark. Wonderful views of the river and the camp site and would be a great venue for lunch between shorter game drives which we won’t enjoy as we are besotted with all day drives as they allow the guides to take you further and increase your chances of seeing the scarcer animals.

Down to the lodge early for a few pre-sundowner tipples.
