|A very quick and (mostly!) easy 100 mile drive from north of Birmingham to Huntsville. The only "excitement" was a truck blowing a tire in front of us scattering rubber all over the road and scaring the you-know-what... Reminded us of someone blowing up some poor kid's basketball in Superior, WI back in '08.
We got lost, really lost, trying to find the state park. One GPS said go one way, the other a different way, and the park's website a third. We made the mistake of heeding the directions by the park staff—after all they know the way to work—don't they? Yeah, but they don't commute in a 40' motorhome. After some harrowing tours of very narrow residential streets we managed finally to get back to a main artery and then followed the trucker's GPS directions. Ultimately we made it in one piece with Bob doing a masterful job of navigating Carpe through the shoals.
This park is a really remote place perched on a hilltop right near downtown Huntsville. We're nestled among the trees (re., no satellite reception and very marginal Verizon signals) with electric & water for $18/nite less our senior discount! We're due for a (predicted) big storm this evening so it should be interesting. We're meeting our nephew, his lovely wife, and two boys for dinner at a local BBQ place we enjoyed during our last visit this past August.
Plans for the balance of our stay are not yet set. We'll leave Thursday morning, but till then we're "hangin' loose".
