Tuscany
In the morning we were treated to a private tour of a nearby castle and visited with the caretakers who live there. The next stop was a walk through more countryside to a Chianti winery where we sampled three different local wines (two red and one white) complete with a "light" lunch - salad, bread, and lots of cheese.
We all needed a good break after that, so we went back to the hotel until late afternoon when we drove to San Gemignano, a hilltop town famous for its 14 remaining towers - like Rapunzel would have let her hair down from. There were plenty of tourists, but the crowds were thinning out by now, and we had a one-hour tour followed by a chance to walk and shop (the shops seemed awfully touristy to us) and then had a great dinner at a restaurant in the town.
