Well, we've been on so many roads recently we've almost lost count. Tennessee to Alabama to Mississippi... 31 south, to 72 east, to 24 west, to 43 south, to 17 south, to 18 west, to 82 west through Arkansas. We'd actually planned to stay on 82 west all the way through Texas but when we reached Texarcana I decided that enough was enough. US 82 west is actually a very good road but it's hilly, bumpy at times and most importantly takes you through lots of little towns. And that means red lights, stop signs, trains, dogs and pedestrians. Too much work for hubby. So I made the decision to buzz on down I-30 it I-20 to 87 west to 180/62 and finally 285 northbound until we reached Brantley Lake State Park just outside of Carlsbad, New Mexico. Which is where we are tonight! Whew, it feels good to settle in for a few days, LOL!

It's been an interesting ride and it's been fun to note that along the way we've been through Paris, Havana, Athens & Cuba. We've crossed the Spoon River, Putt Creek, Lost Grove Creek and Turkey Creek. Not to mention the Tennessee River and the mighty Mississippi. By altering our original route we did hit Dallas at 5pm on Friday night, not our finest hour! But we made it just fine. We rested a day & took in Gravity 3D which we enjoyed very much, especially since we had both recently climbed into a NASA simulator! We flew past 'Abileeeeen, Abileeeeeen, prettiest town that I've ever seen'.....Not! And Sweetwater wasn't much either. We can understand why RV Parks are few and far between! I actually took very few pics as we made our way across Texas. We did two days of 400+ miles, something we try to never do! That's just too darn much sitting in one day.

So, for the next 10 days or so we're going to slow the pace down a bit. We took a nice two mile stroll along the Pecos River yesterday. Felt good to stretch our legs a bit. We like that river walk! We're viewing the amazing Carlsbad Caverns today and then moving on to Deming, NM on Wednesday. We plan to cross the border into Palomas, Mexico for a day. Time for an eye exam and possible new glasses for both of us. We like to eat at the Pink Store. Great Mexican food and we need a margarita...Or two!!!
