We're taking a year off to travel! travel blog

Don's brilliant idea today, since it was cooler than usual, was to hike to an old mine he had seen across from the Avi Casino in the Dead Mountains. I was agreeable, so we headed out. The access road was blocked off, so we were faced with a longer hike than expected. The mine looked like it was really far away. Nevertheless, with hiking sticks in hand, we started off. We could follow a road for a short way, just up to the telephone lines, then had to cut cross country. We chose a likely ravine to follow, which worked for a while, then went cross country. Apparently there had been a road, but someone went to great lengths to rough it up so it was unusable. We did make it up to the digging, and surmised it had been either a granite site or a gravel pit. Either way it was interesting, and we got at least 2 miles in today!

Afterwards, I made him go to the walk in clinic because he was swollen behind the knee that has been bothering him. Ice and rest, they said. HA!!
