Today has been a red-letter day with abundant wildflowers to please the senses. The flowers were thick and vibrant everywhere. I had never driven on this particular section of Park Road 4, so I was amazed at how many wildflowers there were. Alas, the road is narrow with only two lanes and no shoulders; so there were almost no safe places to stop for picture-taking.
My luck was much better on the Willow City Loop, however. I think there are more flowers along the Loop this year than there have ever been since I’ve been visiting there. There were many visitors but nothing like it will be this weekend, I’m sure. I saw what appeared to be two auto clubs (antique cars and Mazda convertibles) and also a motorcycle club.
I had lunch in Fredericksburg at one of my favorite restaurants, the Bavarian Inn. I brought home half my lunch as well as an apple strudel.
Continuing on toward Austin, I stopped at the Wildseed Farm, which is about ten miles east of Fredericksburg. The poppies were magnificent! After my walk around the plots, I had a dish of peach ice cream. Yum!
My last stop was at the Lady Bird Johnson rest area, where I had a nice conversation with the woman who is one of the contract maintenance workers. She told me that they have to work constantly to clean up the messes that people leave behind. It is all so thoughtless and unnecessary because there are plenty of trash receptacles.
