After visiting the town one more time, I took a leisurely drive down Route 1 and 119 to the Kisatchie National Forest (yes, it's pronounced the way it's spelled). I drove up to 300 feet above sea level to the Longleaf Vista area to hike their 1.5 mile trail. Just about the only trees here are longleaf pines! The trail had lots of markers on it to explain the vegetation I was seing, that's how I knew I was looking at a baby tree at one point!

The weather was perfect for walking and I enjoyed myself here. Because I finished near the end of the day, I was hoping to see wildlife. A deer saw me and ran but I caught it running away. A turkey crossed the road when I was leaving, and a little tortoise protected itself inside its shell as I drove over it, not with my tires! Now I am ready to drive some miles!
