This afternoon I had a follow-up visit with my ophthalmologist. The news was mixed. The good news is that the virus in my left eye is still stable but Dr. Plunkett wants me to continue taking the antiviral drug and eye drops.
Both eyes have cataracts that are about equally advanced and ready for surgery. He will perform surgery on the right eye first. He can use a laser for it but may not do so due to the greater cost and not a lot better vision results. However, at my next visit on May 28, he will perform more specialized tests and we will then decide which type surgery is appropriate. Laser surgery is not an option at all for the left eye due to the scarring of the cornea caused by the virus. Bummer!
