Tuesday was a "work" day. We cleaned up the house, did our laundry, restocked the pantry, picked up our mail and started repacking the RV and truck. Wednesday, we were on the road by 8am. We had originally planned to head southwest from Cortez to Flagstaff, but after much research decided there would be no acceptable place to spend a night on that route. We changed our travel plans and drove south from Cortez, CO to Gallup, NM, passing through Shiprock on the way. There was a lot of construction on the road, and it was sure needed. Some sections were really rough, but generally it was a good trip. We made a lunch and rest stop at the rest area/visitors center on I-40 just after we entered Arizona. The temperature had changed dramatically - from 30's in the morning to 80's at noon. Then a couple more hours to Norma's RV park in Joseph City for our overnight stop. We generally stop at Norma's when we are in this area. It is a friendly little town and the park is minimal, but has good hookups. They also reserve some of their pull through sites just for overnighters, so we usually don't even unhook the truck. Also, Joseph City has a Love's truck stop that consistently has lower fuel prices. This trip we were able to fill up with diesel for $3.81. Thursday morning, we continued on to Flagstaff and south on I-17 to Distant Drums RV Park in Camp Verde. We are meeting with 4 other couples there for a few days for a "Hardy Party" annual reunion.
