This morning I had my first Prolia injection for osteoporosis at South Austin Medical Center. The only “issue” was a sore arm, which was to be expected. Prolia is supposed to maintain the progress I had made with Forteo.
Here’s a head-scratcher: If I had had the prescription filled at a local pharmacy and then gone to my endocrinologist’s office to have the injection, it would have cost me over $300 plus the cost of the doctor’s visit. My endocrinologist himself told me that, if I were to have it done at a hospital, my insurance would cover the cost. My out-of-pocket expense was only a co-payment of $50. That makes no sense but since when did insurance rules make sense? I was just happy to learn of that option!
