The last time we visited this area, we had planned to drive to the top of Mount Walker. When we stopped by the visitors center we were told it was closed because of snow.
We were happy to see it was open today. We drove to the top and walked a small trail to the scenic view. It was a bit cloudy but still beautiful.
Mount Walker is located in the Quilcene community. The community is located on the scenic Olympic Peninsula along the seawater-filled glacial valley of the Hood Canal.
Mount Walker is the only peak facing the Puget Sound that has a road to its summit. It was an easy drive with lots of birds. Washington's state flower, the coast rhododendron, grows in profusion along the steep dry slopes of Mount Walker, but the blooms had faded and were drying up. I would love to see them in season.
We all enjoyed our drive much. Check back later for more from Washington.
