Tonight I went with Dianne, Inge and Inge’s neighbor, Ivri, to a concert by the Austin Symphony with the award-winning Los Angeles-based ensemble, Mariachi los Camperos de Nati Cano, at the Palmer Events Center. During the first half, the Symphony accompanied the Mariachis and during the second half, the Mariachis performed alone. Their director, Navtividad "Nati" Cano, no longer performs with them. He told us that they won’t let him play with them anymore because he’s too old. :>) He will be 80 next month.
The group consists of eleven musicians/singers playing four violins, two trumpets, a Mexican folk harp, two guitars, a Mexican vihuela (a high-pitched, rounded-back guitar) and a large bass guitar called the guitarrón. All the singers had very good voices which blended well together.
