We are in Wenatchee, WA. The city of Wenathee is crowned the "Apple Capital of the World." It is the home of world famous apples and wine grapes.

As you arrive in the valley, you pass miles and miles of lush orchards - apples, pear and cherry growing along the confluence of the Wenatchee and Columbia Rivers.

One of the best viewing places to view the river valley and the mountains is Ohme Gardens. This is one of the most unusual gardens we have visited. It is high up on the top of a mountain bluff. It has awesome pools and waterfalls, not a lot of flowers, but beautiful walkways and awesome views of the valley below.

It was started in 1929 when Herman Ohme and his bride Ruth purchased forty acres of land for an orchard.

Included was a dry, desolate, rock-strewn bluff with a breathtaking view of the snow-capped Cascade Mountains and the shimmering Columbia River valley.

The Ohmes loved to stand on the bluff and dream of flourishing alpine meadows, shimmering pools and shady evergreen pathways where the hot, relentless summer sun allowed only sage and scrub desert growth. They set their minds on achieving that dream. They continued to perfect the Gardens for 42 years, until 1971 when Mr. Ohme died at the age of 80. The park is now owned by the city.

It is absolutely beautiful and peaceful, a wonderful place to visit with incredible views of the valley below. I am adding pictures of some of the fantastic pools with waterfalls with fish swimming at the bottom and more. A lot of the garden is shady with huge trees and is not easy to photograph. I am adding the best ones I could capture, I hope you enjoy the pictures.

The garden walk goes for more than a mile, parts of it are really steep, so we only visited parts of it, what we saw was awesome. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Check back later for more from Washington.
