This afternoon Carolyn and I went on a “Roll and Stroll” adventure, which was sponsored by South Austin AARP, Chapter 2426. We met the group at the Wheatsville Food Co-op on South Lamar. A CapMetro representative joined us for part of the trip and provided each rider with a free 24-hour bus pass.
Today’s program included visits to several art galleries as part of the West Austin Studio Tour Group Exhibits. Today was the first day of the Tour and it runs until May 26. Admission is free during this time. I was impressed with the quality of most of the art works.
Our first stop was at 2200 South Lamar where we visited Austin Art Garage and Austin Woodwright. There were quite a few other shops of various kinds in this little hide-away place. I pass by here nearly every day but had no idea there were so many shops. They aren’t easy to see from the street.
Our next stop was at the Metamorphosis Gallery, also on Lamar, just down the street. It opened a few weeks ago. Since it is new, it has plenty of room to display more works of art.
Our last stop was at the Dougherty Arts Center, 1110 Barton Springs Road – just a few blocks from Pecan Grove. It had been a long time since I had been there.
After our gallery visits, we went to Café Express at 34th Street and North Lamar for lunch. The food was good and I enjoyed visiting with members of the tour group. There will be another tour next Saturday, which I’m sure I would enjoy, but I will be at our Cen-Tex campout in Llano then. Maybe there will be another outing that I can join later.
