Oasis cafe

Sansol Alburgue

Day 6 Villamayor to Sansol 21 km

After Villamayor I was told there are no villages, food or water, until Los Arcos 12km away so therefore stock up before leaving. About 6km into the day I rounded a corner and swore I was seeing a mirage, a little cafe oasis in the middle of nowhere serving freshly squeezed orange juice and 'bikini sandwiches.' I was walking with Byron and we stopped for a juice and tortilla.

It was a pretty and pleasant trek through open countryside to Los Arcos where we stopped for lunch and ran into Janette, a fellow Sydney sider I've bumped into a few times now.

My idea was to walk on to Viana in order to complete 30km but on arriving in the tiny village of Sansol after 21km today I had to face the fact that my feet were in serious trouble and I simply couldn't go on. I stopped off at a very cute Alburgue which had one large dorm room.

It was a good choice to stop there when I did because a minute later the heavens opened and a huge downpour ensued. The peregrinos who arrived after me were a sodden, soggy mess.

I spent some time trying to doctor my feet but I think they need a) a rest and b) new, bigger shoes. How can my feet have swollen so much I can't cram my little sausage toes in to them?!
