Marching to Battle

Paseo Nuevo

The Mission Santa Barbara

Attack #9-Splendid Santa Barbara
22 May - A short drive up the coast took us to the spectacular city of Santa Barbara. However, positioning the AV was a real challenge, particularly as I was still shell shocked from the Carpinteria experience. I finally settled in a beach front parking lot at 3 bucks an hour. Ouch!

Our march took us promptly through the beautiful upscale shopping areas of downtown Santa Barbara. Paseo Nuevo is one of Southern California's favorite get-away spots. Here we discovered a picturesque world of Spanish-style courtyards, winding paseos, gently flowing fountains and lush tropical flowers. Our march continued by many gorgeous homes of the well-to-do, as we made our way to Mission Santa Barbara and then circled back to the starting point.

I expected my parking fee to be 15 bucks as I was there almost 5 hours, but as I approached the guard shack, I saw that the gate was open and the sentry was MIA. I didn’t stick around to ask any questions as I high-tailed it out of town to our next encampment at the Goleta Kmart 12 miles away.

Mission Status for day 7 of 16: Completed 8th and 9th of 21 scheduled attacks for a total of 82.5 miles on the ground and 560 convoy miles.
