Monday

After breakfast, we drove down to Yosemite Valley and now we were really in Yosemite! Very beautiful with highly photographed sights like El Capitan and Half Dome. It turned out that there were campsites available in the valley campgrounds, so we were able to switch to North Pines and made a reservation for dinner at the Awahnee Hotel, the famous and expensive old lodge there. It was fantastic!

Tuesday

It turned out that there was a volunteer living in the campground with a barking little dog confined outdoors in a small open cage - very bad situation for the dog and for us. The ranger was reluctant to tell the volunteer that HER dog was violating the campground rules that held for other campers. We've lived in THAT situation before and know enough to call them on it. So we went and filed a formal complaint, got our money back and drove out of Yosemite to Mariposa - a beautiful drive - to a KOA that was a welcome respite from Yosemite and all its tourists and crowds - and they sold homemade fudge too!
