Jesus is Lord of Pipestone

Thursday September 20, 2007

We arrived to Pipestone last night and settled in to a KOA Campground which is right across from the Pipestone National Monument. We came to Pipestone Minnesota to see the quarry that has holds sacred stone which is used to make peace pipes. We were a bit surprised, however, when we arrived and stopped for dinner at a local restaurant. Across the street from the restaurant is a church which has a very large sign out front. It said in very large black letters on a white board, "Jesus is Lord of Pipestone." The girls and I just sat there for a moment reading the sign once or twice... Jesus is Lord of Pipestone. We remarked what a large sign it was, what a bold statement it made, wondered if everyone in Pipestone agreed with its statement, and were confused because we came to Pipestone for the rich heritage of Pipestone National Monument and the meaning it held for Native Americans. What did Yul Brenner say in the King and I... Is a puzzlement...
