This morning I attended the J.O.Y. fellowship luncheon, which I always enjoy. We played table games for a while and then had lunch. Today we had build-your-own taco salad and angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream. Yum!
The leaders of our prison ministry presented the program. It included a former prisoner who became a Christian while incarcerated in the women’s unit at Lockhart. She spent ten years in prison for intoxication manslaughter. Now her mission is to help other women prisoners by working with various prison ministries. She confirmed something that I have read and heard many times and that is that nearly all prisoners were abused, neglected or otherwise mistreated as children and that they believe no one could love them. This illustrates just how important loving and caring parents are to the development of children. Positive role models are very important; otherwise, how will they learn what is “normal” behavior?
