Madison County - 30 miles SW of Des Moines, Iowa's capital - was made 'famous' by Robert James Waller's novel "The Bridges of Madison County" and its movie version. Tourists flock to check out its covered bridges where the characters fuelled their affair ... and so, with Iowa being rather short of attractions (fog, corn, more fog, corn ...), we too got a map from the Chamber of Commerce and visited all six. Unfortunately they all looked very similar - but for fans of the book / movie I have attached pics of all 6 (only one of which can you drive over).
