On the Road, Howe, IN to Hannibal, MO
Oct 3, 2009
|Last night I went to bed around 9:30 and read my book for awhile. I’m sure I was asleep by 10:00 PM.
The next thing I knew, Marilyn was walking around the bed and I thought that it must be time to get up. I had really rested well!
I asked Marilyn what time it was and she replied, “11:00”.
What! I had been asleep for only an hour!
I soon fell back asleep and the next time I woke it was because Marilyn was up to visit the bathroom. This time it was 4:00 AM and I never did go back to sleep.
We were leaving today, and by 8:30 we had shared a pot of coffee, taken the trash out, and finished up our pre-travel chores.
We followed Jesse & Ginger out of the campground and for the next 10 ½ hours we drove toward Hannibal, MO.
We planned to stop at Champaign, Illinois to spend the night so we took our time, driving a scenic Hwy 5 south from Shipshewana.
We stopped for lunch, lingering for a bit at an Arby’s we found within walking distance from the Walmart parking lot where our rigs waited.
Another stop for fuel and we pulled into the campground at 3:00 PM.
There was no room for us, as it was College Football weekend and every place for miles around was filled. Alas! We had failed to make a reservation, thinking that there was no need at this time of year.
I joked that we now know how Joseph and Mary felt when they couldn’t find a place to stay in Bethlehem.
Along the way today, we had a call from Howard Payne and it was good to talk with him again. I wished we were attending the rally in Kerrville.
Later, we had another call, but this time it was Linda Payne and I’ll let you read Howard’s blog to learn about that.
With no place to stay we continued on toward Hannibal and finally arrived right at 6:00 PM.
We were mostly set up in short order and Marilyn took Ginger in our Van to fetch a couple of pizzas for our dinner.
So we are back in Hannibal. Our friends, Jesse & Ginger are parked right next door to us, and other friends, Dan & Pat are staying at Ray Behrens Recreation area near the Mark Twain Lake.
We are anxious to see Jennifer and Colby tomorrow. We hope to see Steve too!
So, now it is time to rest up from our long day of travel, and you just never know what adventures tomorrow might have in store…..
