We visited the lovely town of Minturn and loved it. It reminded us of one of the towns featured in Hallmark movies at Christmas. :-) It looks like a painting it's so lovely. It is located in southeastern Eagle County on the Eagle River between the resort communities of Vail and Beaver Creek. The town limits extend 2 miles northwest along U.S. Route 24 to Interstate 70 at Exit 171, from which point it is 5 miles east to Vail.
After exploring the town we drove part of the "Top of the Rockies" scenic drive through fabulous mountains over the Continental Divide at Tennessee Pass. Seldom dropping below 9,000 feet, the Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway is one of the highest roads in the USA. Part of the drive was still closed because of snow. We are planning another scenic drive over Independence Pass to Aspen as soon as the roads are open. Check back later for more from Colorado.
