Larry & Lee Ann's Journey travel blog

Making the turn to head toward Lakeview & ultimately Klamath...

We've had brief patches of sunlight throughout the day...

Interesting hills off to our left...

And off to our right as well...

We thought this windmill was cool...

It's almost like being on a roller coaster...

There were lots of moments like this!

This is the point I asked Lare what altitude we were at!

At the bottom we enjoyed these beautiful rock formations...

Quite different and unique, pretty too....

One final shot as we move on...

Okay, one more of the many steep descents...

A portion of the stream I mentioned...

And it was even prettier here...

Run baby, run, just not right in front of us, please!

One of the many stands of pretty aspens we were fortunate to...

I thought this was pretty as the sun broke through once again...

I'll leave you with this pretty shot for the day, thanks for...

Well, we made it to Klamath Falls today. Whew, what an exhausting trip it was. We woke to drizzling skies this morning, and by the time we showered, ate breakfast, fueled up and got on the road it was about 11am. We traveled 110 miles north on Hwy 95 to Denio Junction and then took Hwy 140 West to Lakeview and then on to Klamath Falls.

Oh my goodness. If you ever take 140 West, please make sure you are well rested. It is such a long, desolate, windy road. And does the scenery ever vary! We lost count of the summits we climbed. And the 6-8% downgrades went on and on! At one point I asked Larry what altitude we were at?? He got a kick out of that one!

We finally entered the pretty little town of Lakeview situated at the foot of the Warner Mountains and at the edge of the southeast Oregon High Desert. What a beautiful area. There was a pretty stream off to our left and we stopped to walk and just breathe in the crisp, clean air. The aspens were turning a glorious golden color, so pretty. There is cattle grazing on much of the land and horses, goats & sheep are abundant as well. Five deer took their lives into their own hands, or should I says legs, as they darted in front of us!

It rained on and off throughout the day, but nothing serious. The temperature remained a pleasant mid 60's most of the day, and we stopped for a short break for lunch. Other than that, we did a good seven hours of getting on down the road. We are currently parked in a Wal-mart parking lot. We are way off to one side, out of the hustle and bustle. We hadn't planned to stay here, but it was just too much hassle looking for an RV park with the lateness of the day when we arrived in town. Worked out well, as I needed to pick up 15 bags of things anyway! LOL

So, we will look for better accommodations in the morning before we head up the mountain to view Crater Lake. We are so looking forward to that. We understand it is awesome. We'll be sure to get lots of pics to share with you my friends! Thanks for checking in....
