As usual we spent our first day exploring the local area and getting information on what to see and do. We had visited Interlaken on a week’s holiday about 15 years ago with Heather’s mum but only remembered staying at the Grand Victoria Hotel and going up the Jungfrau.
From the campground we walked into Unterseen (the old town of Interlaken) and then explored Interlaken which sits between the two lakes of Thunsee (Lake Thun) and Brienzersee (Lake Brienz) The town was very busy with lots of tourists. We found the Grand Hotel overlooking the Hohe Matte where paragliders were landing. We returned to the campground on the free local bus.
We have already discovered that the Swiss (unlike the French) know what tourism is about so spent the evening looking at all the options and quickly realising that two weeks may not be enough time to do the area justice and to do all the walks we want to do.
