Oakley to Topeka on a rainy day
Sep 9, 2009
|We were awake, dressed and ready for breakfast by 7:00 this morning. We had most of our chores completed so Marilyn & I walked over to the restaurant to start our day with a good breakfast. Ham and eggs, hash browns, toast and coffee provided the fuel for us to get through the miles we were to travel.
We drove in rain for most of the way to Topeka and now the RV is quite dirty.
Jennifer called us several times during the day. It is nice to have 24/7 cell phone service again.
We had a call from Carl who informed us that we had received a letter in the mail at Mountaindale. It arrived this morning, so we need to call them tomorrow to give them an address to forward it to us.
We took almost exactly 5 hours to drive the nearly 300 miles to Topeka, where we set up for the night.
We unhooked from the RV, then drove to a Dillon’s store to fill the truck with fuel for tomorrow.
We had time to take our showers and get dressed to meet with our friends, John & Lori and Sam & Rhonda.
John arrived to pick us up and we enjoyed visiting with him as we rode to the Mexican restaurant where the rest of the group was meeting.
With hugs all around, we began with a margarita, chips and salsa, before ordering the main course.
The conversation was punctuated with lots of laughter as we all visited, telling stories and discussing options for future trips.
We lingered after our meal, reluctant to part company with these good folks.
John drove us back to the RV resort and we stood talking for awhile before we finally said goodbye and went inside.
We sure look forward to seeing these friends again whenever the opportunity arises.
So, our overnight stay here in Topeka has been made very pleasant, by sharing part of it with good people.
Now, Marilyn & I look forward to arriving back in Hannibal by tomorrow evening. In the meantime we simply must wait until morning to see what adventures that day has in store…..
