We had another great day in Texas, this time in Beaumont. We had planned to do some shopping at Costco and could not find it when we arrived. We had searched it online and even had the exact address, when we got there it was right address but the wrong store. We still have not figured that one out. :-) We decided to take a driving tour of the city instead of shopping. This is our first time in Beaumont, we like it a lot. It is close to the Louisiana line, we saw a lot of Louisiana Cajun Restaurants with a lot of crawfish advertisements. This is where the Louisiana Cajun and the Texas cowboy meet.
We enjoyed our drive downtown where we saw the old Jefferson Threatre. Built in 1927 for Jefferson Amusement Company, Jefferson Theatre was built at a cost of $1 million and constructed of the finest materials available at the time. It's A Wonderful Life 1946 premiere was held at the Jefferson Theatre, with star James Stewart and director Frank Capra in attendance. The capacity is approximately 1700 seats.
We also enjoyed the Crockett Street area and seeing the Jefferson County Court house, located in a beautiful Art Deco building. The Jefferson Theater and Crockett street venues are used to host local events for Beaumont. After our self guided tour we had great steaks at the Saltgrass Steakhouse. We saw a lot of great museums in the area we plan to check out later. Check back later for more from Texas.
