Christy and John's Travels travel blog

Forward, linear progress of traffic in Vietnam involves constant, but fluid lateral movement as cars, buses and trucks move back and forth across lanes to avoid the multitude of motorized and human-powered, two-wheel vehicles. Slowing down is, apparently a sin, but the gap always seems just wide enough, the space always well judged. But maybe a backward glance from the bus could reveal the mayhem left behind; scooters flying right and left into flooded rice fields, the riders attacked by marauding gaggles of domestic geese or gored by massive mud-caked water buffalo. As a passenger, the best option is to avoid looking straight ahead or behind, but to just enjoy the scenery as it passes by.
