What fun!

So beautiful...

Davis Mothan AFB

Sunset at the Fam Camp

Before writing about our stay in Tucson, I would like to backtrack on a stop we made on our way to Deming, NM, because it surprised us all. It Would have been easy to drive by because it didn't look like much from the road, but we decided to visit White Sands National Monument. When we drove a few miles into it, we were engulfed in white gypsum sand dunes. White was everywhere, it looked so much like snow - a winter wonderland, only it was warm.

Next on our journey was a one night stay in a Fam Camp at Davis Mothan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona. As well as being an active military base, it is also where they mothball old planes - row after row of them.

The campground was very full so we had to dry camp in the almost full overflow. We watched ground squirrels (I thought they were gophers) run from hole to hole and enjoyed a beautiful sunset before calling it a night.
