So this morning I went straight back to drive the rest of the Avenue of the Giants, and then walk around what I thought were the best bits of the forest. If possible the Redwoods were even more impressive than yesterday, at a few points I thought I was going to have the mental equivalent of a heart attack with the thrill of it all. And I didn't see another soul for about three hours. However, I did drive off with my camera on the car roof though, and for several hundred metres, but luckily I was driving real slow listening to Brian Eno and gawping at trees.

Then I drove a very winding mountain road through the forests over to Highway 1 on the coast, which looked great, and then down the coast to Mendocino, stopping at various beaches and vistas on the way. I had a short walk up a steep canyon of ferns and huge Coastal Redwoods in the Van Damme National Park, and then I basically drove back to San Francisco, stopping before the Golden Gate Bridge to get some pics of it with the sun on it before I drove across it. And then back to San Carlos and a bowl of genuine Russian Borscht from Vladimir, very tasty. Yum!
