It's Saturday! And what does one do on Saturday in Merida???? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... How about go hang on the beach and swimming in the Gulf of Mexico!

Head north from Merida and you will run into the fishing village of Progresso, home of the longest wharf in Mexico (according to the lonely planet).

Progresso is a quiet town that is just beginning to attract foreign tourists, it is now a stop for some cruise ships and you can even catch a ferry from here to Florida. But regardless it's beach front has kept its charm and character. It is an easy get away and much quieter than the hustle and bustle of Cancun beaches.

Parking near the beach is plentiful, as our the vendors who walk up and doen selling shells, and fruit, flavored ice, and beach accessories. Meanwhile along the sidewalk ride additional vendors calling out their wares as the boardwalk bars and rstaurantes set up their tables under palm thatched coverings right on the beach. Music is playing, a strong breeze os blowing in off the the green waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the sky is a crystal blue, and people are smiling and enjoying life. It's no wonder so many ex-pats are beginning to make Progresso home........
