Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

We were awake early this morning after a good night of sleep. We didn’t even look at the clock until after we were out of bed, then saw exactly 6:00 AM on the dial. Man, we are getting good at this travel thing! LOL

We pulled out of Deer Creek Valley RV Resort at 7:35 and headed west on I-70.

The sun was shining brightly, traffic was light and there was no wind at all. It was an absolutely gorgeous day!

We stopped in Salina, KS at the Flying J to fill with Diesel fuel at $2.559 per gallon, and got back on the road, this time with a chicken salad sandwich to share.

Westbound on I-70, just before reaching the Kansas town of Wakeeny, we noticed a large sign which amused us. It read: “You can Eat, get Gas, and Sleep in Wakeeny”. We’ll continue to report on these little amusing signs we see around the country.

Our GPS became confused in locating the campground here in Oakley, KS, but that was just fine because we knew where we were and where we wanted to be. I suspect that I put the wrong co-ordinates in the box. We always double and triple checked those in the aircraft, but are not so particular when there are no consequences.

Once we arrived at High Plains Camping, I input the present position, named it, and erased the other waypoint that I had screwed up.

Our fuel mileage today was 10.3 mpg. I guess it improved today because we paid more for the fuel than we did yesterday, huh?

This is a very nice Campground and we have stayed here before. Good, free Wi-Fi, and many other amenities, but the only TV reception is off your own antenna or satellite. Off your own antenna, the three major networks are available.

There is a great restaurant next door, within easy walking distance. The Colonial Steakhouse serves a buffet with great food. For lunch today, they had roast beef, ham, fried chicken, fried fish, veggies, salad bar and a dessert bar.

The beets on the salad bar tasted just like the ones my grandmother used to serve. The fish was excellent as was the fried chicken, potatoes and gravy, and the cucumbers and onions.

Trust me, it will be nothing more than popcorn for dinner tonight.

We are back in the RV relaxing now. Marilyn washed her hair and is relaxed in her recliner reading. I am going to finish this blog to a certain unknown point, and then I will get back into my book.

I am currently reading a true story of Aaron Cohen in a book called “Brotherhood of Warriors”.

General Tommy Frank (Ret) had this to say about the book:

“Aaron Cohen has something to say. And he knows what he’s talking about. If you’re conflicted about how aggressive America should be in the global fight against terrorism, read this book. Cohen knows that national survival ain’t free. A no-nonsense riveting read.”

We have now had our showers and are relaxing in our PJ's.

So, another day of life on the road comes to a close. We have had a fine day today and we just can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store…..
