This evening I attended a big birthday celebration for Martha Boswell at Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood. I don’t know how many attended, but we took up an entire row of tables. Martha’s children sponsored the big bash. We had all the barbecue and trimmings we could eat and then there was cake, of course. Since Martha is a golfer, the invitation and cake were done in a golf motif. It was a nice party and I was glad for the opportunity to meet her family members.
The Salt Lick is a very popular place and always has a large crowd, especially on week ends. Our party started at 5:30 so as to minimize the traffic problem. Even so, the place was already filled. Some of their billboards proclaim, “You can smell our pits from miles around.”
I drove there via MoPac South to TX 45 West to FM 1826 South. All went smoothly until FM 1826. There was a long stretch of road construction which left only one lane open. On the way back to Austin I drove via FM 967 East to Buda. There were a couple of short stretches of construction on that road but at least there were still two lanes open.
