After leaving Babler, we quickly crossed over into Illinois. Good roads mostly and flat. We had lunch at Litchfield and decided to change our plans from going to Rock Cut State Park , close to Rockford, and then to Illinois Beach, to Buffalo Park close to Algonquin and just drive up to the VA facility on Monday for Jeff's appointments.
We were close to Elkhart, IL when we heard a loud pop. Jeff pulled over and sure enough, the oldest tire on the Airstream had blown out the sidewall. The hole that had blown had not done any collateral damage to the trailer. Thank goodness for torsion bar suspension. We were able to drive on the shoulder until the next exit and get the Airstream off the interstate.
We called the road service company and they said someone would be out in about 20 minutes. It was shady and nice where we pulled off, so it could have been much worse. After the road guys changed the tires, we drove on into Normal/Bloomington and found a Passport park in Carlock (about 8 miles out) We stopped there for the night and looked up tire companies on the internet so we could get a spare before continuing on.
Madison had a great time at this park because there were lots of rabbits. She really loves rabbits, but I never let her get one. She just knows she could if I would just undo that leash!
The next morning, we went into Bloomington and got a spare and hit the road again.
