We had another great day exploring this part of Colorado. We visited the pretty town of Dolores and saw the Galloping Goose No. 5. Dolores is halfway between Durango and Telluride, only 20 minutes from Mesa Verde National Park. The Dolores River forms McPhee Reservoir, the second largest body of water in Colorado.
With the Dolores River running through town and mountains on both sides of the valley, Dolores is one of the truly unique spots in Colorado. We had lunch at the Naked Moose Restaurant, the servings were so huge we brought half home for dinner. The food was excellent and we would highly recommend if you are in the area.
We enjoyed seeing the McPhee Reservoir, even though the locals are telling us it's much lower in water than usual. They are having terrible drought in the area.
They also had a nice campground situated on a mesa 500 feet above the reservoir, at an elevation of 7,400 feet. Pinyon and juniper trees offer shade throughout the campground.
We enjoyed our day and hope you enjoy the photos. Check back later for more from Colorado.
