Head here after unsuccessful attempt to recover Bon's camera in Managua. Arr about 10am & ck into Oasis Hostel dorm at $8 US ea...seems everything here is pricey, but free internet and tea all day! Have breakfast and proceed to use the free internet. A small pool invited me in for a short dip to escape the heat and humidity. It's a nice, open hostel which makes up for the crowded dorm situation somewhat. Finally get out late in the afternoon and walk to the 'Tourist Zone', a malecon of sorts...the beach is sand but very dirty (Lake Nicaragua is polluted big time, but is the largest lake in C. Am), and altho there are many restaurant buildings of all sorts plus kiddie playgrounds, most of these are totally closed up. There were a few locals sitting on benches along the way (1 1/2km) and maybe a couple dozen in the water but pretty much the place is like a dead zone as far as people or things happening. Nice trees and pathways, but like I said litter everywhere. We head back and Bon to the shower I to the pool for a dip.
